Text Box: Fiddler on the Roof is a Musical set inTsarist Russia in 1905. Fiddler opened on Broadway in 1964 and was winner of 9 Tony Awards in 1965. The musical is centered on the family of Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman in the village of Anatevka in Tsarist Russia. Traditions are extremely important to Tevya; this causes conflicts when his older daughters want to marry the man they love instead of accepting marriages arranged by the matchmaker and their father. There are also conflicts caused by harassment from their non-Jewish neighbors. Tevye has a very personal relationship with God and often questions his life's situations.
Some favorite musical numbers are: "If I Were a Rich Man", "Do You Love Me?", and "Sunrise, Sunset". The musical depicts what it means to be human…containing love, faith, family, friendship, humor, violence, hate, prejudice, and change, just to name a few.
Fiddler On the Roof , musical theatre at its best, will delight the entire family.
